Concrete Patio Contractors Who Care
Create A Beautiful Outdoor Space with Standard Gray Concrete Patios
If you are looking to have a concrete patio installed, we have many options available for concrete that we pour for patios, one is the standard gray concrete. Gray concrete is one of two or three different options. You can either do a standard gray patio, or you can do a colored patio, which isn't very popular but yet still sometimes people like to do it. Or you can do an upgraded decorative stamped concrete. But if the budget doesn’t necessarily allow for the decorative stamped concrete or if your tastes are just more inline with the standard gray then this would be a good fit for you. Now just because it's a standard gray patio, it doesn't mean it has to be boring, it doesn't mean that it has to look like a driveway, or some sort of an industrial space.
Enjoy the Durability and Low Maintenance of Standard Gray Concrete Patios
There are a variety of different things that we can do to add some dimension and character to a gray concrete patio. First off, we always pour it with a high-quality 4,000 PSI concrete mix aggregate. We are always putting good preparation with road base and #3 rebar. Then we mechanically tamp, plate compact all of the substrate that we put in. Then we pour it with the concrete at 4,000 PSI. We finish it with a medium broom finish so that it has a good texture to it that feels comfortable when wet. Then we put in control joints, which are necessary to tell the concrete where to crack. The guarantee with concrete in our climate specifically, is that it’s going to crack, so we want to tell it where to crack. So we put in those control joints, in very specific areas but we can also add additional control joints just add some character to it.

Custom Design Ideas For A Standard Gray Concrete Patio
We use the 4,000 PSI concrete with all of our patios, it is going to hold up really well in our climate, there's a very specific way that we finish our concrete to ensure that you don't have to worry about it spalding or flaking in the years to come. In our climate that happens, we see that in driveways and sidewalks and there is a very specific thing that is being neglected by a concrete installer that allows the concrete to that, that’s a detail that we can discuss when we come on-site so you don’t have to be worry about that with our patios.
What is the best color for concrete patio?
Adding a concrete patio to your outdoor space is a great way to create a functional yet stylish area to enjoy. Standard gray concrete can give your patio a timeless and clean look, while for a more subtle, earthy look, modern rust color can help the patio blend into your landscape. No matter what color you choose, you're sure to create a beautiful outdoor space.
One of the things that we’ll offer when we get on-site, is doing a diamond pattern, with the saw cuts. It’s a great way to make that gray patio look very contemporary and very modern. Also, we can soften the edges, instead of doing a rectangle, we can make it more of an oval and just add a little bit of dimension to the edges. And one of the things we typically so with gray concrete, is we do a control joint, a 12 inch control joint all the way around the patio just to give it this nice bordered edge.
Does a concrete patio need rebar?
If you're building a concrete patio, it's best to use rebar. Rebar strengthens the concrete, helping to keep cracks from forming and maintaining the slab's level and even surface. Without it, the cracks in the patio would become wider and the concrete could become uneven.
The only downside I would say, to the gray concrete is that it can stain obviously, your decorative stamps are actually being sealed, which gives it its color vibrancy but that sealer also protects it from staining. With the gray concrete you don't typically seal it so if you spill something on it I can discolor it. But outside of that if done well, concrete only gets harder as it gets older, so it is a good long-term affordable solution and when it comes to a finished space like a patio or deck, it is the most affordable option.
Should you Slope a concrete patio?
For a safe and durable patio or walkway, it’s essential to slope the concrete correctly. Failing to do so can lead to the formation of pools of water—and an ideal habitat for mosquitos. Plus, if the slope points towards your home, you’re at risk of rot and mold. Ensure your patio or walkway is sloped properly for the best long-term results.
You have standard gray concrete and that's the most affordable, and then you get into your colored concrete, you get into your decorative stamp concrete, and then once you get into your pavers or your flagstone patios, those are going up in price, getting closer to the cost of the deck.
