A gable roof, because it's an A-frame, your beams are on the side, so the support post are out front but then you have to open up the house and put the beams into the house. I have seen people do a gable roof where they have the post on the outside, it's definitely not recommended & building permitters don't like to see it that way, not to mention that it just doesn't look right, doesn’t look thought out.
